Just a reminder of the arrangements for Daryn Mc Kay's funeral.
1. We are asking Pathfinder and Master Guides to attend the funeral on Thursday in their Class A uniform.
2. Bring your gloves. Do not wear sash.
3. We will have color guard, honor guard and drum corps in attendance. We may have some Pathfinders and Master Guides, and Officers from other churches attending to help us out. The emotional environment will be too difficult for some of our own pathfinders.
4. Some pathfinders may be asked to assist in ushering.
5. Since the viewing starts at 9am, we should try and be there BEFORE 9am
6. Coordinator Irwin will make necessary assignments in terms of honor guard, etc. Please cooperate. Again, we want to extend our deepest sympathy to the Mc Kay family on the death of Daryn. May God comfort them at this time and reaffirm their faith in Him.

Due to the number of persons expected to attend, I will need you cooperation in making this event memorable and incident free. Please make note of the following:

1. Buses leaves strategic locations in Brooklyn and Staten Island. (Bus leaves Staten Island based on numbers) The buses leaves at 6:45am from all locations. Please remind your members that they should arrive approximately an hour prior before departure. Boarding will take place approximately 30 minutes before departure.

2. It is important that individuals coming on the trip register as soon as possible with a deposit of $20. This is nonrefundable but may be transferable. The balance must be paid in full by Sunday, August 22nd. I am sure that we will not be able to accommodate last minute deciders on the morning of the trip as this would be too costly and energy consuming to source a Bus and purchase tickets on the day of the trip. All trip arrangement will be finalized by Monday, August 23rd.

3. All individuals must wear the wristband provided at all times in order to gain access to the buses and food lounge area at the park. Wristbands will only be issued to those who have paid in full.

4. The file in the attachment is the registration form. Some of you might have already received this form from your Area Coordinators. If not please print and use. Please include a contact for each individual registering. This can either be an email or sms address. Celphone numbers with the capability of receiving text are great too. Please update me each week as to your registration count.

5.  All funds collected should be turned over to Director Marcia Burgan. Please email her at: marcia23b@aol.com, and cc: bsiwebmaster@bsiarea.org, and sirthorpe@gmail.com.

6. The buses will leave the park at approximately 7pm with an estimated arrival time in Brooklyn and Staten Island, 10pm

7. Please have the trip promoted in your weekly church bulletin where possible. Coordinator Burns will be sending or distributing the promotional poster/flyer for the event.

I sincerely hope that we all can work together to make this event fun-filled, and as professional as possible.

Any questions or comments, I can be reached at this email or by phone at 203-347-8719.

Thank You

Prayer, Praise and Worship

Jul 5, 2010 7:05 a.m.

A Bay Shore man was killed in a crash involving a first responder SUV late on July 4th.

It happened at about 11:30 p.m. at Pine Aire Drive.

Police say Marlon Chavarria, 21, a volunteer Brentwood Legion Ambulance EMT, was driving a first responder 2007 Ford Explorer with its lights and sirens activated when it collided with a 1993 Saturn. Chavarria was responding to another motor vehicle crash at the time.

Police say Jarred Smith, 18, of Brentwood was driving the Saturn and was trying to make a left turn onto Cecil Avenue when he was hit by Chavarria's SUV.

One of the three passengers in the Saturn, Daryn McKay, 18, later died at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

Smith and the other two passengers were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with minor injuries. Chavarria was taken to Southside Hospital with leg and shoulder injuries.

It is a sad time for us all to know that Daryn has passed, but it will be a great day when he rises from the dead. We may cry now but we will all rejoice that day when Christ returns. Through Daryn's death we need to come together as a church and as friends and help each-other in this time of grief. We need to be there for each-other not only so that we may feel better about his passing but also to help each-other make it to the kingdom, so that we may meet with Daryn again when the roll is called up yonder. So let’s come together on Sabbath, July 10th for an all day service starting at 11:00am at the Christian Fellowship SDA Church located at 777-779 Schenectady Ave (Between Linden & Lenox) Brooklyn, NY 11203.
We will pray for one-another as well as his family. Let’s lift up the name of Jesus and not question his reasons; but let's rejoice because we were blessed with having someone like Daryn in our lives.
Regards,
Irwin Lawrence

Police Storms Brooklyn Seventh Day Adventist Church

Posted by: pfyffe1

Tagged in: Untagged

pfyffe1
The Institute said that at
approximately 8:30 P.M last night, Friday, May 7, 2010, about
fourteen Police officers from the 77th Precinct stormed the Shiloh
Seventh Day Adventist Church, located in the heart of the
Caribbean-American community at 449 Eastern Parkway Brooklyn, NY
11216, during their Sabbath Bible study service. The officers were in
pursuit of an 18 year-old church member, whom Police alleged
committed a traffic infraction and ran into the Church. The officers
did not have a search warrant or the permission of the Pastor. As the
Police officers entered the sanctuary, the First Elder of the Church,
Peter Leonce, approached and reminded them that they were entering a
church; that the Holy Sabbath was in progress; that they were
disrupting Sabbath Bible study service, and that their intrusion
violated the constitutional rights and sanctity of the Church. Elder
Leonce further offered to mediate, so as to avoid. officers
desecrating the sanctuary. However, he was brushed aside, and over
the strong objection of congregants, the officers proceeded to raid
the sanctuary. The 18 year old was later found and arrested on the
second floor. Eyewitnesses allege that at no time during the arrest
was the suspect mirandized. During the mêlée, several parishioners,
including Attorney-at-Law Lisa Luke – the Church’s risk manager,
cautioned the officers that the child was epileptic and could
collapse under such abuse, but their warnings were rebuffed and
ignored. The suspect was then transported to the 77th Precinct, where
his parents and other family members were denied access to him. While
at the Precinct, the teenager suffered multiple epileptic seizures.
What was even more repugnant is that the suspect was left on the
floor without aid from Police officers, in an unconscious state in
the presence of his family, until paramedics arrived. The teen was
taken in an unconscious to Kings County Hospital, with his feet and
hands handcuffed. He was admitted on arrival under Police guard.
Although, he was admitted to hospital, the Police continued to refuse
to allow the parents to see or speak with their son. The suspect was
released from hospital on Saturday morning and taken to jail, from
where he telephoned his parents to notify them that he was beaten
about the head and body by the officers and that the seizures were
triggered the blows to the head. President of CGID, Rickford Burke
condemned the incident and likened it to the NYPD’s 1994 assault on a
Harlem mosque. Burke observed that “The Police would dare not attempt
such desecration of a Jewish synagogue or a Catholic Church, and
added that “This incident is a manifestation of Police officers’
utter disrespect for the African-American community and its religious
institutions.
